As she lied in the medical bay of the strange new place, the Teryn leader's hazel eyes fluttered open, only to flinch at a bright searing light that lite the room. Groaning slightly, she slowly brought herself up to a sitting position as she reopened her eyes to examine the room around her. White. The color was literally everywhere. The walls, the floor, ceiling, table, everything around her was white. Now usually, she liked the color, but when it was all she saw, it was more unnerving, made her want to leave.
Kara rescanned the room, wondering where on earth she was, and then it hit her. The memories of the Drakken attacking her, putting her through so much pain because....well that was it. Was there even a cause for the violence? Then again, the female was a Drakken, a member of the savages. A mindless brute. Or was she now? The memory of the vampire drinking her blood made her shiver. Who knew what the effects were? A Drakken possibly knowing all the Teryn secrets. It made her skin crawl. Once the feeling of dread passed, she looked around once more, looking for anything that would possibly explain this place. Slowly she tried to move from the bed, only to now notice the iv that was in her arm, actually giving her blood. Possibly a medical bay...but where?
A bit of time passed as she examined the room, but after a moment of rescanning her body, she groaned. That was right, she was almost a mess from the attack. As she waited for whatever to happen, Kara looked at her reflection through a nearby metal tray she found. Gently, her fingers ran across one of the deeper cuts on her face, seeing some of the cuts across her face were beginning to heal and the bones had been reshaped. A blow to any part of her face would surely break the brittle bones, more than they already were. However most of the swelling had gone down luckily as well as the bruises. Just the cuts and broken bones remained. But again, where the hell was she?
The thought made her scan the room again before she placed the tray down once more and looked to the blood iv. A hand quickly ripped the tube from her arm, only to wince when the air hit the open hole in her arm. Ignoring the iv start dripping crimson onto the floor, she quickly swung her feet to the side of the bed and got up...only to fall to the ground. A groan escaped her as she felt the room spin and was in the process of pulling herself back up when she heard movement on the other side of the door across the room. Immediately she looked towards the door, ready to demand whoever it was for answers.

“Well look at you! Up from your seemingly eternal slumber and straight to the ground. You must be quite the masochist, Miss Aldridge.” Gwyn burst through the sliding metal doors, draped in an ivory lab coat. Every inch of her body, with the exception of her face, was covered with either clothing or latex. Her features were light and welcoming, a deceiving deviation from the norm. The artificial light illuminated her molten eyes in such a manner as to convey a sincerity and sweetness contrary to the harsh environment.
The woman made quick steps in fluorescently beige heels, which did nothing but interrupt the deluge of white by ushering in another bland color. Gwyn stopped just in front of the Teryn leader, the smile a parent gains by watching their child flail about ineffectively, almost mocking her failure, painted Gwyn’s face. She wore thick, flesh tone stockings that trailed up to a knee length pencil skirt. A jersey, teal colored blouse was tucked into the skirt and was pulled tightly along the woman’s figure. Reaching out a latex coated hand to help the woman up, Gwyn spoke softly.
“We thought you might not wake up. You’ve been out for over four days. We were almost ready to deem you a vegetable since our brain scans were picking up virtually nothing, but here you are: proving us wrong. That doesn’t happen very often, I assure you, Miss Aldridge. It’s for the best, I guess. If you weren’t awake by two this afternoon, I was going to administer some potentially very painful nerve stimulants to wake you up. Oh, look at this! You’re making a mess. You know, we went through a lot of trouble to synthesize this blood for you. It’s packed full of amino acids and other glorious organic wonders to help you heal up. However, those nasty marking across your body are going to take some genetic intervention. No worries though, we’ll have your skin more pristine and glowing that it’s ever been. ”
Gwyn dropped her outstretched hand and walked over to the now puddle of artificial blood. She stuck her left hand into the corresponding pocket and searched the deep pits for a moment. Withdrawing a simple hair clip, she closed the tube of the IV and neatly wrapped the long cord around the metal apparatus that held the blood bag.
“Now I know that it isn’t the best tasting blood you’ve ever had, but it’s all we can offer you at this point and time. We have to make sure any diseases you may be a carrier for are obliterated. You were asleep for that whole bit though. Turns out you had a slew of nasty things that could reek havoc on a human crawling around in the wounds. We have a whole gallon of drained fluids filled with tetanus, staph, anything you can think off really. You had it all. I’m sure if we looked hard enough there are some strains of the Bubonic Plague in there. It smelled awful. I’ll spare you that sensory overload, but believe you me, you smelled awful. We’re glad you’re all better, though. Now, if you would take my hand, we’ll get you back up to your bed. Now that you’re awake we can administer the heavy medication to return you to tip-top shape.” Gwyn returned her latex hand to its previous position, the motherly smile still on her face. Her eyes churned and swirled in their perpetual whirlpool of molten steel and brass. One could almost swear that the woman’s eyes had their own gravitational pull that begged you to get lost in them, to relinquish your grasp and allow yourself to sink into them, just to see where the spinning pools would take you.
“Come on now, we have many things to do today.”

As she lied on the floor, Kara merely examined the woman that came into the white room, seemingly to look the role of a doctor. While the woman spoke, she said nothing as she merely looked at her closely. There was something about this woman...As she walked over and even offered to help the leader up, she merely was quiet as she watched her, having a small uneasy feeling. She was merely a human...but what made her so...wary of this woman? As the woman explained she had been out for four days, explaining all that they thought, she opened her mouth to talk, until she suddenly said she was making a mess. Her hazel eyes went to the floor on the other side of the bed having a lovely little pool of blood, before hearing how 'they' went through a lot to synthesize the blood. So...they knew she was a vampire. Ok that was a start. But she had never seen this woman before. How the hell did she know her?
Again, Kara was quiet as the odd woman walked over and sealed the bag of blood with a simple hair clip before explaining they obliterated any sort of diseases that she had. Ok, well she was a vampire, she wasn't going to go get herself checked at the doctor for a disease some human would die from, she thought coldly. What was going on? This woman was being kind and she had a automatic dislike for her. As the woman went on about the different diseases, she merely pushed herself up to a sitting position on the ground so she could watch this woman more clearly. When she even offered her hand, Kara watched it, as if she still didn't trust her. That's kinda what happened when she woke up in a strange place, hooked to a few machines. And she wanted answers.
When she talked of how they had many things to do, she narrowed her eyes. "Where-.." She immediately coughed at trying to talk and raised a hand to her throat where the Drakken immediately grabbed and tossed her by. Ignoring the feeling of hoarseness, closed her eyes and shook her head. "Where..am I? ...What is going on?" She said looking around, still ignoring the woman's hand. And she made it clear she wasn't going anywhere until her questions had answers.

The fake smile plastered on Gwyn’s face twinkled brightly. Her liquid eyes fell upon Kara’s, their superheated bronze and black color seemingly amused by the woman’s curiosity. “You’re safe.” She said softly. “So you don’t remember, then? I guess it’s for the best. It was an awfully traumatizing situation. I mean, to be so selfless and to suffer such luck- well, it breaks my heart.” Gwyn wiped a fake tear from under the porcelain crucible she called an eyeball. She placed her right hand over her heart, as if to protect a fragile trinket from cracking.
“I suppose you need to know…” Her voice trailed off wistfully. “A friend of yours is dead. Benjamin Kanst, I believe.” Gwyn gave the leader a moment to absorb the information before continuing. “A coven fight broke out several days ago around three in the morning. A Drakken zealot was pacified permanently by a Valen woman. The scent of such putrid blood caused the savages to swarm and your friend was involved in the fray. Toward the end of the altercation, it became clear that it was not a random occurrence, but a calculated assassination. Several of the other coven leaders were targeted and brought into the fight. You were among them. I gather that you were trying to save Benjamin when you threw yourself in front of that bloodied woman. Honorable, but ineffective. Luckily, agents were in the area to scare off the horde of vampires and collect the injured and the dead. You were brought here, to Frostbite Futuristics. We’re a collaboration effort between the Arani and the Numont to help keep the vampire exposure issue under control. ”
Gwyneth extended her hand once more, long, elegant, glassy with the tight latex. Her fingers curled gracefully and then extended, beckoning for Kara to grasp onto them. “Come on, now. I won’t waste anymore time. I can answer your questions while we run our tests. We have to make sure your human parts are all okay before we can return your vampiric powers.” A soft instrumental song crackled to life across the white wasteland. A symphony of violins played the same notes, each strained string acting as a layer upon the last, each acting as one yet indiscriminately separate. The ballad stretched over the room, a desaturated gloss that supported the woman’s story with a mournful ambiance.

Kara merely watched this strange woman as she smiled down at her. There was just something about that smile that she couldn't get. It was like she was trying to gain her trust. When she said she was safe, her hazel eyes narrowed slightly before she continued, hearing her ask if she couldn't really remember. "No..I wouldn't say that." She muttered as she glanced away. She remembered the Drakken woman, some of the torture, telling her clan to stay away...but everything else was a blur. Did she actually forget what had happened? Kara looked back to the woman, missing half what she had said. However, the next information shocked her.
Immediately her jaw dropped. The Valen leader was dead? Sure they weren't close or anything, hardly even friends, but she was shocked. "Benjamin is dead?" She said, blinking a few times. Ok this woman had her attention. When she continued about how a coven fight broke out and the Drakken clan went out, actually assassinating. Wait what? "Wait, the Drakken forming a sense of assassinations? I don't mean to accuse you, but that clan doesn't have the brainpower for that tactical power. They just know 'storm, punch, kill' Them going out to fight because of Drakken blood, I understand, but forming a strategy seems...unlikely." She said bluntly. As the woman continued about how she was among the target and how she assumed she was trying to save Benjamin. "I didn't even know he was targeted. I thought it was a random attack." She muttered, until Frostbite came up. "Frostbite?!" She exclaimed. Oh thank god this woman was with the Aranai.
A large sigh escaped her. "Oh thank god. I really didn't know where the hell I was." She said, obviously relaxing. A while back she had made a peace treaty with the Aranai and right now, she was thanking herself. Immediately her eyes glanced around again. "If this is part of Frostbite, where is Alice?" She said curiously. Surely with one leader dead and another injured, you would think Alice would be demanding to know who the attacker was so it could be dealt with. However, the woman merely extended her hand again. Her mouth opened to ask another question, but this woman beat her to it. Nodding slightly, she took the womans hand as she pulled herself up as what sounded like classical musical came on. "What kind of tests exactly?" The Teryn leader asked. Whatever tests they were, she would cooperate of course, but she couldn't help but to hope they wouldn't take long. She had many questions she wished to be answered. ----------

Gwyn’s eyes moved away from the woman as she gained her trust, her motherly smile slipping away. Her prowess at influencing the moods of her subjects was astounding and the most recent victory was no exception. As Kara stood before her, the cyberkinetic optical implant in Gwyn’s left eye flicked to life. A slew of information began to process through the uplink to the Lazarus mainframe. A soft voice chimed in the woman’s head, narrating every string of text that ran across her retina.
“ALDRIDGE, KARA. NO GENETIC SAMPLES. ASSUMED AGE: 25. PROJECTED AGE: 130. N.E.O. SENSORS SUGGEST GENETIC ANOMALY. INTEREST LEVEL: HIGH. COMMENCING OBSERVATIONAL STUDY. RUN IN BACKGROUND? = TRUE…”
The computer generated text vanished from her sight, her smoldering eyes snapping back to focus on the vampire. Her mouth perpetuated the farce, twisting into a deceptively kind grin again. “Alice is currently occupied at Frostbite Towers- some kind of explosive breakthrough in their science. I’m sure she’ll stop by to visit you later tonight. However, we’re on a tight timetable. Please excuse my force.” Gwyn, quite forcefully, navigated Kara to her bed, immediately punching a vague code into the panel along the bed’s frame. Six long, tendril-like mechanisms emerged from under the mattress, three along each side. Each was a black spider leg that curled and moved by itself, waving a tiny, blue, diamond shaped piece of glass around. Another obscure code and the robotic arms became rigid, aligning. A brilliant static blast erupted from each small glass piece, sending out webs of energy to the other pieces of glass. For several moments the exchange of energy intensified until a web of silver and cyan light arced across Kara.
“By now you should be experiencing acute immobility. Tremors, cramps, stinging pain and a pins-and-needles sensation may be experienced throughout the body. A fraction of the electrical current flowing through your body is being manipulated and used against you- to secure you and ensure your safety. Next, we have to prepare you for testing. Be prepared from a small sting.”
Gwyn opened her ivory lab coat, revealing the three syringes secured to the fabric. One was small, empty, nonthreatening. The second was the same nonthreatening size, but contained liquid silver Mercury that sloshed about. The third syringe had an exceptionally long needle and a self-illuminated orange fluid. The woman withdrew the empty hypo first. She manipulated the keypad on the bed, causing the robotic arms to discharge another energy field that suspended Kara and flipped her around so her back was facing the ceiling.
“Again, my deepest apologies that you have to suffer this indignity. Your kind tends to be jumpy and we can’t take any risks. Now, small pinch.” Gwyn drove the small hypo into Kara’s left arm, her peculiar blood filling the small chamber quickly. The FEAR leader capped the needle and placed the hypo back into her coat, withdrawing the orange fluid next.
“You’re going to experience a sensation you might consider uncomfortable. This next shot will stimulate your heart. Blood flowing through your veins again might not be the most nostalgic experience. Not to worry, though. You’ll be unconscious before it becomes painful.” Gwyn moved Kara’s golden locks away from her neck, pressing her gloved thumb firmly into the bundle of nerves along the structure. Upon discovering the anatomical landmark she was looking for, Gwyn drove the needle into the woman’s flesh. The bright orange fluid drained into the Teryn, surging visibly through her veins. Another code was tapped into the bed’s panel and a pair of similar robotic arms emerged, placing wired sensors along the woman’s body. A heavy, metal band was assembled to fit snugly to Kara’s head. The band glowed a soft yellow from the various lights dotting the surface.
By this time, Gwyn assumed Kara was unconscious. She took the mercurial hypo out of her jacket and injected it into the side of the woman’s neck. The silver fluid could be partially seen flowing through the woman’s reawakened veins. Another quick code was punched into the keypad as the syringe full of blood was plugged into the proper receptacle. A holographic screen materialized above the woman’s bed, the supercomputer’s voice booming.
“GENETIC ANALYSIS OF SUBJECT “ALDRIDGE, KARA” COMMENCING. INITIATING EXPERIMENTAL PROTOCOL, CODE NAME: “DATA WYRM.” PLEASE WAIT
… … … DIVERTING POWER TO TIARA IN: 5… 4… 3… 2… 1...”
The metal headgear began to buzz and hum with life.
“DATA MINING SUBJECT “ALDRIDGE, KARA.” GENERATING ILLUSION: “NIGHTMARE.””
Gwyn’s very being was torn asunder by a blinding pink light, her flesh bulging, contorting and stretching in horrific ways before she popped like a lanced boil. Her chaotic death broke apart the bleached room. It shook and crumbled, turning to dust around Kara. A legion of terrifying, bloodthirsty demons converged upon the vampire, each sporting rows of razor sharp teeth. They leaped, hungry to taste Kara’s flesh. However, as they wrapped their hellish claws around the woman, their dark bodies blocked out all light, creating a pitch-black veil.
The darkness dissipated as the moon moved unnaturally quick into zenith. Its eerie light illuminated the scene before Kara: Three savage Drakken were poised to rip her apart. Each of the vampires before her had shaded faces, so that their features couldn’t be deciphered, but one was obviously female.
“They’re all dead. You couldn’t do a thing. I wonder if you taste as sweet as the rest of your coven.”
